The Shimokita Region is located in the northeastern part of Aomori Prefecture and centers on the Shimokita Peninsula, which is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Tsugaru Strait, and Mutsu Bay.
The region includes the city of Mutsu as well as Higashidori Village, Kazamaura Village, Ōma Town, and Sai Village, and was historically formed under the rule of the Nanbu clan.
Distinctive natural landscapes such as Mount Osore and Hotokegaura, along with unique local culture and traditions symbolized by the Shimokita dialect, continue to be strongly preserved today.
