Hidaka Subprefecture List

The Hidaka Subprefecture is an administrative region located in the southern part of Hokkaido, covering a vast area that extends from the Pacific coastline to the mountainous terrain of the Hidaka Mountains.
The subprefectural capital is Urakawa Town in Urakawa District, making Hidaka one of the few subprefectures in Hokkaido whose capital is not a city and which contains no cities within its jurisdiction.
The region is nationally renowned as one of Japan’s leading horse-breeding areas, with primary industries such as racehorse production, fisheries, agriculture, and forestry forming the backbone of the local economy.
