The town’s name derives from the Ainu word “Tayki-ushi-i,” meaning “a place with many fleas,” based on an old local legend. Access

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Obihiro Airport, about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car to central Taiki.
  • By Bus: Tokachi Bus Taiki Information Center connects Taiki with Obihiro and Hiroo. The trip takes about two hours from Obihiro Station.
  • By Car: Drive south from Obihiro along National Route 236 for about 60 km (1.5 hours). The Taiki Interchange on the Obihiro-Hiroo Expressway is under construction.
  • By Train: The former Hiroo Line, which once served Taiki, was discontinued in 1987. The old Taiki Station site remains as a small local heritage spot.

  • Kamui Kotan Park & Campground – A scenic riverside park surrounded by the Hidaka Mountains, perfect for camping, hiking, and outdoor recreation.
